Life Science Grid
The Dutch Life Science Grid is part of BiG Grid and is specifically geared towards the needs of life sciences research. The Life Science Grid is a distributed network of computation and storage facilities that is open to all life scientists based in the Netherlands. Complex problems in bioinformatics can be processed in parallel and data can be stored and replicated at sites throughout the Netherlands. Operational partner SARA provides advice and support to all users of the Life Science Grid.
Main characteristics of the Life Science Grid:
- Several clusters and universities and university medical centres (Amsterdam (AMC, VU and NKI/AvL), Groningen, Leiden, Maastricht, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Wageningen).
- Clusters can be used separately or together by using Grid middleware.
- More than 2500 jobs for concurrent processing.
- Distributive storage capabilities and automatic replication of data.
- Maintained and supported by SARA and NBIC.
