Plant Genome Evolution Conference (Current opinion conference)

Date:
04 Sep 2011 to 06 Sep 2011
Location:
NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

The first plant genome sequence, the one of the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana, was presented in December of the year 2000. The second one, of rice, followed more than a year later, in April 2002. The poplar genome, which was third, was only published in late 2006. However, due to the recent progress in next-generation sequencing technologies, the number of completely sequenced plant genomes is rapidly increasing. On top of that, also more and more functional genomics data are becoming available for plants. All this makes this an extremely fascinating era for plant science and, amongst other things, allows studying plant genome evolution at many different levels.

Current Opinion in Plant Genome Evolution is the second in a new and exciting series of conferences sponsored by the timely and popular Current Opinion journals. These conferences provide a new level of direct interaction between the leaders in the scientific field and the attending delegates. Emphasis will be placed on latest unpublished results, extended discussion periods and direct interactions with leaders in the field.

The second Current Opinion Conference is dedicated to plant genome evolution. The conference will cover all areas of genomic and evolutionary research within this topic including new plant genome sequence projects, genome structure, genetic diversity, evolution, polyploidy, gene duplication, hybridization and heterosis, plants systems biology and bioinformatics.

There are still a few seats available for the conference. Register here: https://conferences.elsevier.com/index.cfm
