Principal Research

Péter Horvatovich (born Budapest, Hungary in 1972, PhD in 2001 at University of Strasbourg in France) is an analytical chemist who turned to proteomics related bioinformatics in 2005 after earning a PhD in developing novel methods for detection of irradiated foods, followed by an 2 years industrial experience in cheminformatics and molecular modeling at Sanofi-Aventis research site in Budapest and postdoctoral research in food related proteomics with support of Alexander von Humboldt and Hertie foundations at Institute for Risk Assessment in Berlin.

Since 2005 he is working as postdoctoral researcher and from 2008 as Assistant Professor at the research group of Analytical Biochemistry at University of Groningen in the field of proteomics related bioinformatics, developing novel bioinformatics algorithms and processing workflows for LC-MS data of complex proteomics mixtures.

Horvatovich published over 30 peer reviewed articles in food analytical chemistry, detection of irradiated food, proteomics and proteomics related bioinformatics research fields. Horvatovich is member of the Netherlands Proteomic (NPC) and Bioinformatics Centers (NBIC) and is the secretary of AIO Network Analytical Chemistry (ANAC).
