“High-level” bioinformatics
10 Aug 2012
Marlou Snelleman of CMBI in Nijmegen brought bioinformatics to a "higher level" by giving a workshop in Nepal.
The workshop - “Bioinformatics and computational analysis of Biomolecules” - was organized in July as part of the HOPE-project: Have yOur Protein Explained (HOPE). The Centre for Molecular and Biomolecular Informatics (CMBI) organized the workshop in collaboration with the Biotechnology Society of Nepal (BSN).
More than 65 participants attended the workshop enthusiastically. The participants were provided with the basics of proteins and amino acids: hydrophobicity, structure, properties, mutation, structures, functions etc. They were also trained in bioinformatics tools, such as YASARA view, BLAST and HOPE.
The workshop was given twice at two different locations: the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) in Khumaltar, and for the Regional Students outside valley at Pokhara University in Pokhara.
