NBIC Grants & Awards

The  NBIC grants aim to support the NBIC projects and (the visibility of) the NBIC community. Therefore, only people working in NBIC partner organisations can apply for sponsoring  by NBIC.

Travel and course fund

This fund can be used for travelling aimed at professional expertise development, for instance to visit a lab abroad to get experience with a certain method or application. But also for the participation in an international course (not for visiting a conference).

You can apply for this fund by sending an e-mail to office@removethis.nbic.nl  with the following information:

  • Your contact details including the name of your organisation (which should be an NBIC partner organisation);
  • Your motivation (1 A4); 
  • Recommendation by your supervisor;
  • Overview of budget.

Please note: NBIC needs to receive your application before the start of the travelling or course. NBIC programme committees will judge your application. Their decision is final and cannot be discussed.

Organisation of (international) courses, workshops or conferences in bioinformatics in the Netherlands

This fund aims to contribute to the organisations of activities which stimulate the development of the bioinformatics field. When you are organising a bioinformatics workshop, course or conference in the Netherlands you can apply for this fund.

You can apply for this fund by sending an e-mail to office@removethis.nbic.nl with the following information:

  • Your contact details including the name of your organisation (which should be a NBIC partner organisation);
  • A description of the activity and your motivation to ask for NBIC’s contribution (1 A4);
  • Overview of total budget.

Please note: NBIC needs to receive your application before the start of the event. NBIC programme committees will judge your application. Their decision is final and cannot be discussed.

NBIC thesis sponsoring

If your PhD research has provided new bioinformatics approaches and has led or will lead to practical output for biology research, you may apply for a sponsoring contribution to a maximum of €300 to cover (part of) the costs of finalising your PhD thesis. NBIC also offers the possibility to present a summary of your thesis on the NBIC-website

Please submit this form to request thesis sponsoring. The address you provide will be used for the official grant letter in case your sponsoring request is approved.

Awards & prizes

NBIC awards and prizes are used to stimulate and reward quality and excellence in the bioinformatics field. NBIC yearly presents the following award & prizes:

NBIC Young Bioinformatician Award

NBIC yearly presents  grants the NBIC Young Bioinformatician Award for to a young researcher who has significantly contributed to bioinformatics or to the bioinformatics community in the Netherlands. The winner will be awarded with a cash prize of 2.500 Euro.

The award ceremony is planned during the yearly NBIC Conference, and is followed by a lecture by the winner of the award. Six weeks before the NBIC conference, group leaders will be invited to nominate candidates by e-mail to office@removethis.nbic.nl

Each nomination must be accompanied with:

  • Name and affiliation of candidate
  • Motivation for nomination by group leader of candidate (1 A4)
  • Curriculum Vitae of the candidate
