Description

Have you ever experienced the tedious repetition of having to do the same calculations, the same data range selections and the same figure format specifications to create multiple similar figures with different data files in a spread sheet such as Microsoft® Excel? Have you ever pondered on how to do this three-step sorting or conditional selection and calculations? In Excel, many things are possible, but often very hard to figure out.

Moreover, when you want to do the same or similar things many times, Excel is not the tool of choice. You can do all these things with the statistical programming language R, and especially when you want to do them many times, time expenditure on each single repetition will drop to almost zero. That is why R is so popular in the bioinformatics community. In this course, you will see that there is no magic in programming with R!

  • Using R, you will learn how to:
  • Import data files (excel files, tab-delimited, csv, etc.)
  • Do calculations on data
  • Create data files (excel files, tab-delimited, csv, etc.)
  • Produce publication-ready figures
  • Perform basic statistical tests and calculations

The course is scheduled in 2011 on April 27, May 11, 18, 25, June 1, 8, 15 & 22.

The course will be given in both Dutch and English.
