NBIC HotTopics meeting: Multi-level omics integration
- Date:
- 24 Oct 2011
- Location:
- SURFfoundation, Utrecht
With the advancement of microarray and sequencing technology, many genomics researchers apply more than one profiling method for detection of molecular changes related to their phenotype of interest, e.g. cancer and complex diseases. To gain biological insight from these data, molecular phenotypes such as gene or protein expression are related to measurements at the DNA level such as copy number, SNPs or DNA methylation. Genome‐wide integration of different omics levels yields important insights into the genetic control of gene expression and is instrumental to the deciphering of disease mechanisms. Moreover, the diagnostic value of the integrated data for prediction of disease outcomes such as survival in cancer is probably higher than their individual values.
During this HotTopics meeting we will discuss different approaches for the joint analysis of multiple omics levels' data.
The aim is to identify advances, issues and challenges of these methods in the context of recent developments in genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics. In an open discussion we want to learn how to make the best out of these computational techniques for a better understanding of biology.
Keywords: multi level omics, integration, disease mechanisms

NBIC HotTopics are a new series of NBIC meetings committed to bringing scientists together to discuss the concepts and methods on a hot topic in their research field. It should provide a platform to keep in touch with peers in the field and foster sharing of new insights, applications and collaborations. Therefore, the aim of the meeting is not to present the latest results of your own work, but rather to identify new trends and breakthroughs in the field in general.
