- PHASAR/BioMeta - mining metabolite data from literature
- Understanding and reconstructing biological pathways
Principal Research
Chris Evelo, born Gouda, The Netherlands in 1957, PhD in 1995 at Maastricht University, in The Netherlands. Chris is leading the Department of Bioinformatics - BiGCaT at Maastricht University, which he started in 2001. His main research interest is in integrative systems biology. By using bioinformatics approaches he integrates experimental data from the genomics and genetics fields with current knowledge, and thus tries to understand the biology behind that data. Chris’ group tries to integrate results along the full expression pipeline, from genetic variation via epigenomic imprinting and transcription and translation regulation up to protein modifications. For genetic data they link genetic variation data to the sequence functionality that is represented in the pathways. These analyses are coupled to knowledge integration, for instance for regulatory pathways, which can be derived from literature mining. Recently semantic web approaches are more and more being used for that purpose. Chris intensively collaborates with researchers from all over the world
