Principal Research

Patrick Kemmeren (born 1976, Waalwijk, The Netherlands) got his masters degree in Medical Biology in 1999. His PhD focused on analyzing and integrating high-throughput functional genomics data to improve the overall precision, accuracy and biological signifance of functional genomics data. During his PhD he has also been involved in Dr. Alvis Brazma’s group at the European Bioinformatics Institute setting up a pipeline for submitting data to the public repository ArrayExpress as well as co-developing Expression Profiler, a  microarray data analysis software package. He finished his PhD in Bioinformatics in 2005 (Utrecht University).

After his PhD, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Nevan Krogan’s lab at the University of San Francisco California in 2006, resulting in the definition of an accurate and comprehensive map of stable protein-protein interactions. In 2007 he was awarded a Veni grant from the Netherlands Organization of Scientific Research and now works as a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Frank Holstege’s lab at the University Medical Centre Utrecht to continue research on the role of and interactions between different proteins and protein complexes in the context of transcriptional regulatory networks. Currently, his focus is shifting towards understanding how these different proteins, protein complexes and other signaling molecules function together to form complex regulatory systems.
