e-BioGrid

The e-BioGrid project supports life science researchers in using the Big Grid computing e-infrastructure for demanding computational tasks in their research. BiG Grid, led by partners NCF, Nikhef and NBIC, organizes large computational infrastructure for scientific research. This contains compute clusters, data storage, combined with specific middleware and software to enable research which needs more than just raw computing power or data storage.

Within the e-BioGrid project several simple to complex e-science problem-solving environments (PSEs) are developed that can connect to cloud computing, clusters, gpu, grid networks and/or hadoop. A hardware and software infrastructure is build to solve the ICT obstacles of the biology and bioinformatics end-users that deal with large amounts of data. The e-BioGrid project provides support in e-science problem-solving environment development and facilitates access to advanced hardware facilities with supporting manpower.

The e-BioGrid project runs main and dedicated projects. The main projects are relatively large efforts that require substantial manpower from BiG Grid and take at least two years. Smaller, dedicated, projects up to 3 months receive support on demand. These dedicated projects are open for submission and will be approved based on the proposal and available resources.
e-BioGrid forms the interface between bioinformatics, e-science and life sciences. The infrastructure tools that emerge from these support projects are made available to the research community.

If you have a project that you think fits the goal of e-BioGrid, please contact the e-BioGrid support team: info@removethis.e-biogrid.nl (Irene Nooren, Machiel Jansen, Jan Bot).
