Targeting the trainer

NBIC

08 Dec 2011

The demand for bioinformatics education aimed at life scientists, especially short focused courses, is rapidly increasing. To facilitate the sharing of teaching materials, expertise and experiences, a broad international community initiative – including Celia van Gelder, project leader education at NBIC – has launched the Bioinformatics Training Network (BTN).

The BTN website (www.biotnet.org) is a centralized resource where the bioinformatics community can share teaching materials. All materials listed on the site are freely available to everyone; the ability to upload materials requires prior registration. A distinguishing feature of the BTN website is that the teaching materials are rated and ranked by the community to stimulate constructive feedback.
