Description
The Netherlands Consortium for Systems Biology (NCSB) together with the Netherlands Institute for Systems Biology (NISB) have set up a web-based course 'Basic Introduction to Systems Biology'.
The online course can start any time!
The course has two independent modules.
Module I: Basic biology for non-biologists
This module gives scientists that have no training in biology an introduction in basic biomolecular and cell biological concepts.Students are expected to purchase the textbook Molecular Biology of the Cell (Alberts et al.; Garland Science, 2008).
Module II: Basic modelling for biologists
This module aims at biologists and introduces them to basic quantitative modelling.Students are expected to install MATLAB software on their own computer. A license can be obtained via most academic institutions.
Target group
PhD students, postdocs and other investigators that want to enter the field of systems biology.
Course structure
The course is fully web-based and is carried out individually.
Course components
- readings
- recorded lectures
- assignments to monitor progress
- interaction with a tutor
Timing
The course can start any time. Students are expected to finish within 3 months after registration date. Each module is equivalent to 3 EC credit points.
