BioAssist Engineering Team

The BioAssist Engineering Team (BET) is a group of software engineers working for NBIC without being associated with one of the involved academic groups. The goals of the BET are:

  • Day to day operations of the BioAssist Task Forces. Each Task Force has a half-time project leader from the BET. The project leader takes the lead in the operational management of the task force: leading meetings, creating consensus between the programmers in the task force, and communication with the other task forces.
  • Taking the development of software from any of the academic groups involved in BioAssist or BioRange one step further. This is done so that other groups around the world can start helping in the development, or to make the software interesting for commercial partners to pick up and build a business around it.

As much as possible, these two goals are achieved with the same people: half of their time they spend each on a task force, for the rest of their work time they work together on software development. Our philosophy is that the cohesion of the task forces is improved by the intensive contacts between the project leaders.
